Italy is one of the world’s most exquisite countries, boasting gorgeous architecture, beautiful music, and a rich and vibrant culture. It’s easy to see why many flock to experience the sights and sounds of Italy en masse. Italy is also known for its striking design trends, and it is in homage to Italian design that we created our Italian collection.
The fundamentals of Italian style focus on minimalism and simplicity, understanding how to do as much with as little as possible. Drawing on on these core tenets, the Italian collection uses each material to its utmost potential, with meticulously welded aluminum frames in stylish, striking, and thoroughly modern designs.
Consisting of armchairs, carvers, and a luxurious daybed as well as gorgeous all-aluminum coffee and side tables, the Italian collection keeps things simple, yet utterly unforgettable.
Modern Italian furniture design can be attributed to the renowned Gio Ponti, an Italian architect, industrial designer, furniture designer, artist, and publisher who heavily influenced 19th-century Italian furniture. His design motif was in fact so influential that remanence of his Superleggera Chair (super light chair) is still found in modern chair design today.
It is this minimalist ideal which is carried throughout modern Italian furniture that was most intriguing. Designs appear simple but it is the simplicity of said furniture which fuels its sophistication. This Genre of Furniture Design can often appear seamless, and it is this design aesthetic which requires much-needed skill and design engineering to erect something that not only looks like it was carved out of a single piece of metal but functions as a durable piece of furniture.
The Italian Collection has exploited these design motifs. Using a unique aluminium frame design, this modern piece of furniture achieves its unibody appeal with each piece of its skeleton meticulously welded together. A laborious process, each and every bend in the structure is ground to perfection, hiding the welds from plain sight, allowing them to disappear once the final powder coat has been added. The backrests appear to float, as the contours of the frame align with the low lying wedge-shaped cushions, once again creating the allure of a very lightweight, deconstructed piece of furniture that one might expect to find in a sci-fi film.
The modular pieces complete an L-Shape which is often found open facing towards glass pane doors, overlooking a picturesque scene or simply placed in the precise position to indulge in some light conversation over home brewed cappuccinos. The cushions themselves, a high-density foam which creates a rigid aesthetic that appears architecturally asymmetrical but provides impactful comfort while lounging.
The Italian Collection is a true international extraction, a piece of Blue Bay Furniture which has been inspired by the sophistication of simplicity
